FIU (North Miami-Dade Campus) Project Duration: Design/Permitting Completed. Construction is Ongoing
Miami, FL
Florida International University
Project Value: $40,000.00

Project Description

The proposed expansion to FIU (North Miami-Dade Campus) resulted in the anticipated disruption of the existing stormwater management, water, sewer, fire lines, and irrigation systems. URS prepared detailed plans that required extensive modifications during the construction phase (due to the University’s lack of any as-built data). The stormwater management system include relocation of an existing 24” RCP drainage pipe and recontouring two (2) existing drainage outfall lakes (required filling of portions of the lakes & excavating additional lake for compensatory storage). The main challenge was fitting proposed drainage, water, sewer, electrical, irrigation lines within a narrow 9.5’ corridor between the existing pool deck and the wall of the proposed fitness center expansion. This task required extensive coordination with the contractor(s) and the City of North Miami Utilities Department. Stormwater management permitting was required with the City of North Miami and Miami-Dade DERM.
